Peter Garcia-Meza, President and CEO
Peter has 20+ years of sales and marketing experience in the medical device industry at ACS, Origin MedSystems, EndoVascular Technologies, and Guidant. Peter has worked as a sales representative, managed international distribution networks, launched products, and lead strategic initiatives. He holds a B.S. degree in chemical engineering from the University of Southern California and an MBA from Harvard University.
Rick Williams, Chief Operating Officer
For over 18 years, Rick has been researching, developing and marketing medical devices. His entire career has been focused on early stage start-ups such as EndoVascular Technologies (25th employee) and CryoVascular Systems (1st employee). Rick was part of the first group to develop a cryoballoon. He holds a B.S. in textile engineering from North Carolina State University and is a named inventor on over 20 patents.
Theresa Brandner, Vice-President of Regulatory and Quality
Theresa has more 25 years of management and engineering experience in regulatory (CE Mark, 510(k), IDE, HUD, HDE, pre-SUB), quality, clinical, operations, manufacturing, and R&D. She has been involved with nine early stage startups including Penumbra, Smart Therapeutics (acquired by Boston Scientific), and Interventional Innovations (acquired by Medtronic). Theresa holds a B.S. in mechanical engineering and an M.S. in technology management.
Pat Wu, Director of R&D
Pat has 15+ years of R&D and project management experience in the medical device industry. He has been successful at early stage device start ups and at large multinational organizations. For 6 years, he has been innovating in the emerging cryoballoon technology area. He has worked in interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular, interventional pulmonology, and gastroenterology. Pat has served at Nitinol Devices & Components (NDC), Guidant and PneumRx. He earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, and an M.S. in engineering management from Santa Clara University. Pat is a named inventor on over 18 patents.
Marcia Wachna, Director of Clinical Research
Marcia has 20+ years’ experience in clinical research in the US, Europe and Australia. She was born in Canada and has lived and worked in The Netherlands, Japan, and US. Marcia began her career as a nurse and has since worked as a Clinical Director for several medical device companies. Her career has been marked by many firsts including the first PMA of an endo AAA device, the first carotid stent with embolic protection, and the first in-office sinuplasty.
Jennifer Lloyd Halsey, Strategy
Jennifer Halsey is a senior executive in strategy and finance, focused on capital-efficient growth and partnerships for promising medical technology companies. She works collaboratively with entrepreneurs and shareholders to determine the optimal path for value creation, and she helps facilitate successful partnerships to commercialize innovative new products. Jennifer previously served as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Business Development for Varian Medical Systems, the $7 billion global leader in cancer therapy. In 1999, Jennifer co-founded Asante Partners, a strategic advisory firm focused on MedTech mergers, financings and corporate partnerships. At Asante, she led many successful exits, including the sale of Surpass Medical to Stryker, Chestnut Medical to ev3/Covidien and CryoCath to Medtronic.
Ryan Brennan, Vice President of Sales
Ryan Brennan is senior-level professional with more than 14 years of sales and sales management experience in the medical device industry. He has worked with leading companies to bring advanced technology to physicians, previously serving in key roles at Covidien, BARRX Medical and Johnson & Johnson. Ryan has an impressive track record of success – consistently exceeding sales quotas, implementing effective sales strategies and teams, boosting performance ratings, and introducing core initiatives to promote sustainable growth. Ryan received the Covidien Presidents’ Club award five consecutive years, and has also been named “Territory Manager of the Year,” “Regional Manager of the Year,” and “Rookie of the Year” during his career.
Lisa Bichsel, Vice President of Marketing
Lisa Bichsel has more than 35 years’ experience in healthcare marketing – managing all aspects of product and service marketing within the fields of gastroenterology (including BARRX Medical, also in the endoscopic ablation market), neurosurgery, orthopedics, emergency medicine, ophthalmology, podiatry, radiology, and patient financial services. Lisa’s experience includes product development and commercialization for organizations ranging from Fortune 500 to small start-ups. She brings a wealth of knowledge in managing integrated marketing campaigns, from strategic planning to tactical execution. Lisa specializes in creative marketing solutions, with a successful track record of uniquely positioning companies and offerings in competitive markets.
Quentin Manley, Vice President – Europe
Quentin Manley is a sales and marketing executive in the healthcare sector, with key experience in medical devices and technology. He has extensive experience creating high performing teams, devising successful go-to-market strategies, driving business models and surpassing growth and sales targets. Quentin specializes in the commercialization of novel medical devices in Europe, and he has managed sales and marketing initiatives in the United States, Middle East and Africa. Quentin has launched more than 20 significant new medical products across multiple geographies in the fields of pharmaceuticals, wound care, sutures, hernia repair and women’s health. Quentin spent more than 20 years at Johnson & Johnson, leading a variety of global marketing strategies.
Linda Raggi, Vice President of Finance
Linda is a financial professional with more than 35 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. Linda most recently served as director of finance for OptiMedica Corporation, a venture-backed company in ophthalmology that was successfully acquired by Abbott Labs in 2013. Prior to OptiMedica, Linda was director of finance at Guidant Corporation and its successor, Abbott Labs, for 14 years. At Guidant, Linda participated in activities from the Eli Lilly spin-off to pre-IPO activities leading to its $27 billion acquisition by Abbott Labs/Boston Scientific. Linda began her career in public accounting at Arthur Young & Co.
Aaron Berez, Board Member
Aaron is currently President and CEO of Alembic LLC, an early-stage medical device company. He was a co-founder and CEO of Chestnut Medical Technologies where he led the development of innovative devices for interventional neuroradiology. Chestnut Medical was acquired by EV3 in June 2009. Aaron was the Chairman of the Board of Sapheon, which developed a treatment for varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Sapheon was acquired by Covidien in August 2014. Before Chestnut and Sapheon, he served as VP of Clinical Affairs at Smart Therapeutics and Clinical Director at Endovasix. He received his M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine, and completed his postgraduate training at UCSF/Mt. Zion in Internal Medicine, and Stanford University in Radiology and Neuroradiology.
Greg Garfield, Board Member
Greg is an executive with extensive experience leading device companies, including as Chief Operating Officer for Acclarent. During this tenure, Acclarent was purchased by Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson company, for $785 million. Greg led the operations of the company through the acquisition and integration while managing the legal process of the sale. During his time as COO, the company grew in annual sales from $20 million to over $100 million. He earned a B.S. from California Polytechnic State University and a Juris Doctorate from University of the Pacific.
Jay Watkins, Chairman of the Board
Jay is a Managing Director at De Novo Ventures. Prior to joining De Novo in 2002, he was a co-founder of Origin Medsystems, a venture-funded medical technology start-up that was purchased by Eli Lilly & Company in 1992. Jay has been a member of the board of directors of several public companies, including Gynecare, Cardiogenesis, and Rita Medical. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his MBA from Harvard University.
